Jovan brings 18 years of teaching experience to Dwight School Hanoi, including 9 years in UK state schools, and 7 years at Dwight School London. His extensive experience has shaped him into a versatile and student-centered educator.
Path into Teaching
Jovan realised by the age of 21 that he wanted to become a teacher and share his two greatest passions: engineering and basketball. Teaching offered the perfect blend of both, problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, and personal growth. Dwight has given him the opportunity to excel in both areas, allowing him to teach academically while coaching competitively.
Jovan believes that students learn best when they are actively engaged, building, experimenting, playing, and solving real problems. His goal is to help every learner discover their strengths, embrace challenges, and understand the value of continuous improvement.
Basketball & VEX Robotics: Two Worlds, One Philosophy
As both a basketball coach and a VEX Robotics coach, Jovan sees strong parallels between the court and the robotics arena. In both fields, students must:
- think strategically
- work collaboratively
- analyse problems under pressure
- learn from failure and iterate
Whether he is helping a team refine their defensive strategy or supporting a robotics group redesigning their build, Jovan promotes resilience, creativity, and communication. Both coaching experiences allow him to guide students in developing confidence, discipline, and a growth mindset, skills that extend far beyond the game or the robot.
