With five years of teaching experience and extensive professional learning in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, Madison Elander is passionate about creating joyful, inquiry-driven learning experiences. She believes the Early Years are where curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning begin.
Just 15 minutes after submitting her final university assignment, Madison received a call offering her first teaching position. She soon discovered the day involved leading a two-hour PE hike rather than the classroom she had expected, a memorable introduction to a profession that has taught her the importance of flexibility, humor, and embracing the unexpected.
A Passion for Every Learner
Madison's path into teaching began with a lifelong friendship that introduced her to the world of Special Olympics. Through volunteering as a coach, working as a community support worker, and later as a teaching assistant, she developed a passion for supporting learners with diverse abilities. Those experiences continue to shape her approach, inspiring her to create an inclusive classroom where every child feels valued, supported, and able to thrive.
Learning Through Exploration
Madison believes some of the richest learning happens beyond the classroom walls. She is excited to make the most of Dwight School Hanoi’s outdoor learning spaces and gardens, using nature as a catalyst for inquiry and discovery. By connecting children's learning to Vietnam's unique environment, culture, and community, she encourages students to ask questions, explore new ideas, and make meaningful connections with the world around them.
Building Confidence Through Play and Discovery
For Madison, the Early Years are a unique opportunity to shape a child's first experiences of school. She believes these formative years lay the foundation for social, emotional, and academic growth while fostering curiosity, resilience, and independence. Through the IB Primary Years Programme, she encourages children to follow their interests, think creatively, and develop the confidence to become active participants in their own learning.
Bringing Energy Beyond the Classroom
Outside the classroom, Madison enjoys being active and loves participating in team sports, from soccer and volleyball to baseball and floor hockey. During her time teaching in Kazakhstan, she developed a passion for encouraging girls to participate in sport and helping young people see themselves as confident, capable athletes. She looks forward to bringing that same enthusiasm for movement, teamwork, and community to Dwight School Hanoi.
