Kaya believes the most meaningful learning happens when students are genuinely curious. With a Master of Education in Instructional Technology, Media, and Design and International Baccalaureate training, she creates engaging learning experiences that encourage students to ask questions, think critically, and take ownership of their learning. As a Grade 5 homeroom teacher, she is passionate about helping students develop the confidence and skills they need as they prepare for the transition to Middle School.
Learning Through Inquiry
For Kaya, inquiry is about more than finding answers, it's about developing the curiosity and confidence to explore the world with an open mind. She is particularly excited for students to make full use of Dwight School Hanoi's outstanding learning environments, especially the library, where they can research, investigate, and deepen their understanding through authentic inquiry. She believes providing students with rich resources and meaningful opportunities to explore their interests helps cultivate independent, lifelong learners.
Finding Joy in the Journey
Looking back on her own education, Kaya wishes someone had reminded her that learning is about far more than being at the top of the class. What matters most, she believes, is developing a genuine love of learning and finding joy in the process of discovering new ideas. Today, she encourages her students to embrace challenges, stay curious, and measure success not only by outcomes but by how much they grow along the way.
Learning Without Fear
One quote that has stayed with Kaya throughout her life comes from Lady Bird Johnson: "Become so wrapped up in something that you forget to be afraid." It reflects the classroom environment she strives to create every day, one where students feel confident to take risks, embrace new challenges, and immerse themselves in learning. Inspired by authors such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Tara Westover, she believes education has the power to broaden perspectives, build empathy, and help young people better understand both themselves and the world around them.
