Learning Beyond the Classroom
After more than a decade of traveling, performing music, and working in music education, Duncan found a natural path into international schools. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching for him is seeing the many ways students learn from one another, not only through academics, but also through the ideas, behaviors, interests, and sense of humor they share every day.
Empowering Student Agency
Duncan believes students learn best when they have meaningful opportunities to demonstrate their understanding in ways that reflect their strengths and interests. Whether through a song, a story, a model, or a game, he encourages learners to make authentic connections with their learning while exercising creativity and agency. By offering multiple pathways for students to express their understanding, he creates an environment where every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Growing Through Challenge
Duncan believes that the greatest learning often comes from the greatest challenges. He encourages students to embrace unfamiliar experiences, persevere when learning becomes difficult, and see every challenge as an opportunity to grow. Through curiosity, creativity, and reflection, he aims to inspire students to become confident, lifelong learners.
