Having lived and worked in more than five countries and speaking four languages, Sergio brings a truly international perspective to his role as an ELL Teacher. His own experience of learning and using different languages gives him a strong understanding of the challenges students can face when communicating and learning in a language that is not their first.
Living and working across different cultures has also shaped Sergio into a flexible, open-minded and resilient educator who values the different experiences students bring to the classroom.
Professional Background
Sergio holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). He is currently completing a Master’s in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Education, further developing his understanding of how to support diverse learning needs.
Every Student Has a Story
A regular listener of How I Built This and Desert Island Discs, Sergio is drawn to the individual stories and experiences that shape people. He brings this same curiosity to the classroom, taking time to understand his students’ backgrounds, interests, strengths and needs and using these insights to personalize their learning.
For Sergio, that begins with listening: “Always listen more than you speak because students reveal what they need most when you give them time to talk.”
Consistency Creates Progress
Sergio’s teaching philosophy is simple: “Consistency beats intensity.” Influenced by The First Days of School by Harry K. Wong, he believes that clear routines, steady support and consistent effort create a positive classroom community where students can build confidence and make meaningful progress.
