Tu Do, IB PYP/MYP Vietnamese Language Teacher - Dwight School Hanoi

Tu is passionate about teaching Vietnamese as a way to help students connect with their culture and express themselves confidently. She is particularly inspired by moments when students’ eyes light up as they understand a proverb or story, seeing language not just as words, but as a way to nurture identity and cultural appreciation.

Inspiration Through Vietnamese Women

One of her personal highlights was organizing a performance with the theme “Inspiration,” which used the image of Vietnamese women, from traditional figures to heroic mothers, to share the story of Vietnam’s history. This meaningful experience allowed students to celebrate Vietnamese culture and share its values with a wider audience.

Memorable Teaching Moment

Tu was once asked by a student, “Why was Hanoi chosen as the capital instead of another city in Vietnam?” The class discussed the question together, and it was wonderful for her to see students realize how closely geography and history are connected. Finally, one student exclaimed, “Wow, now I finally understand how interesting history is!” In that moment, Tu knew she had reached them through the beauty of knowledge.

Outside the classroom

Outside the classroom, Tu enjoys living a healthy lifestyle; she is passionate about sports and regularly goes swimming. These activities help her stay physically fit and maintain a positive, energetic mindset, which she brings into every lesson.
