Thu Truong IB PYP Vietnamese Language Teacher - Dwight School Hanoi

Drawing on 13 years of teaching, Thu brings Dwight School Hanoi’s Global Vision to life by guiding students to see that being a global citizen begins with appreciating their own roots

When students feel proud of their identity, they are more open to learning about and respecting other cultures. By connecting local pride with global awareness, she aims to nurture thoughtful, confident learners who can contribute positively to the world.

Her Journey into Teaching Vietnamese

This belief is rooted in her own journey with the Vietnamese language and culture. From a young age, she grew up with her mother’s lullabies and her father’s folktales before bedtime. Those stories and melodies nurtured her love for the beauty of Vietnamese words and traditions. A lifelong reader, she continues to explore the richness of Vietnamese language and heritage through books. What keeps her passion alive is sharing that love with her students and seeing them connect with Vietnamese culture in their own meaningful ways.

Favorite Teaching Moments

Some of her fondest teaching memories include the day her students surprised her with a handmade paper birthday cake, a heartfelt gesture that reflected their love and creativity. She also feels proud when her students’ stories win writing contests or when once-shy learners become confident speakers. These moments remind her how meaningful it is to nurture not only knowledge, but also confidence and joy in learning.

The Lower School & ECD Community

What people might not know about Dwight School Hanoi’s ECD and Lower School is how warm and supportive the community truly is. She sees students being kind, caring, and ready to help one another every day. They consistently try their best, not only in their learning, but also in showing empathy and respect.
