Phuong Bui, Library Assistant - Dwight School Hanoi

In her role as Librarian and Library Skills Teacher, Phuong makes full use of the library’s facilities, its computer system, inviting reading areas, and diverse collection of books, to teach essential library skills and encourage independent reading. Step by step, students learn how to find books, manage their own borrowing, and choose stories that match their interests and reading levels.

Sparking a Love of Reading

Phuong enjoys her work in the library, where she helps students develop a love for reading and learning. She still remembers the excitement on students’ faces when they proudly borrowed and returned books on their own using the computer system, or the moment a child finished their first book independently and couldn’t wait to talk about it. Experiences like these have shown her just how powerful the library can be in building community, confidence and nurturing lifelong reading habits.

A Window to the World

By sharing stories from around the world, Phuong also helps students explore different cultures and perspectives, encouraging them to think globally and act with empathy. For her, the library is not just a place for books, but a space where curiosity, imagination, and understanding of others can grow.

Staying Energized and Inspired

Beyond the library, Phuong maintains a healthy balance by reading and learning new things herself, while also spending time with family and friends to stay positive and energized. This balance allows her to bring warmth, patience, and enthusiasm to her work with students every day.
