From Football Pitch to Classroom
With a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Exercise Science from Roehampton University in London, a Master of Education from Long Island University in New York, and a decade of teaching experience alongside more than 25 years of professional coaching, Chris Leaver has dedicated his career to helping young people thrive through sport and physical education.
Growing up in the United Kingdom, football was at the center of Chris's life. While his dream of becoming a professional player didn't come to fruition, it led him down a path that proved even more rewarding. Coaching with West Ham United and Fulham FC, he discovered a passion for working with children and young people, recognizing the powerful role that movement and sport play in developing confidence, character, and lifelong wellbeing.
A Global Journey in Education
Chris's passion for teaching took him across the Atlantic, where he earned a soccer scholarship to complete his Master's Degree in Education at Long Island University in New York. During his time there, he captained the university's men's soccer team while preparing for a career that combined his love of sport with his commitment to education.
Developing the Whole Child
Chris views Physical and Health Education as one of the most powerful subjects for nurturing the whole child. Beyond developing physical skills, he believes sport builds resilience, teamwork, leadership, confidence, and wellbeing, qualities that support success both inside and outside the classroom. For Chris, the International Baccalaureate provides an ideal framework for helping students grow into balanced, active, and compassionate global citizens.
Joining Dwight School Hanoi is particularly exciting because of the exceptional learning environments available to students. Chris looks forward to making full use of the campus's world-class athletic facilities to create engaging experiences that inspire every learner to develop a lifelong appreciation for health, movement, and physical activity.
Making Every Moment Count
Guided by the belief that there are no ordinary moments, Chris approaches each day with purpose and gratitude. It is a philosophy that reminds him to value every opportunity, every challenge, and every interaction. Through his teaching and coaching, he hopes to encourage students to do the same, embracing each moment as a chance to learn, grow, and make a positive difference.
