Connecting Through Language
For Elise, learning a language is about far more than vocabulary and grammar, it's about building connections. Inspired by her grandmother's love of Spanish and initially drawn to a career as a translator, Elise has always believed language has the power to bring people together across cultures. Teaching became the natural way to combine that passion with her desire to help others grow, watching students develop the confidence to communicate and connect with the world around them.
A Passion for Teaching
Holding a Master's degree in Education with a specialization in English and Spanish. Since beginning her teaching career in 2019, she has drawn inspiration from the educators who shaped her own learning journey. Growing up with a father who was a teacher and three younger siblings, she discovered early on that she enjoyed encouraging others, making teaching a natural and rewarding career.
Learning Beyond Borders
Teaching and living in different countries has shaped Elise into an adaptable and culturally responsive educator. These experiences have shown her that while every student brings a unique background and perspective, they all thrive when they feel respected, challenged, and supported. She believes learning a language opens the door to intercultural understanding, empathy, and the confidence to communicate with people from different cultures.
Building Confidence Through Personalized Learning
Elise believes personalized learning begins with understanding each student's strengths, interests, goals, and how they learn best. She strives to create a classroom where students feel safe to take risks, make mistakes, and grow with confidence. Recognizing that learning a new language can feel vulnerable, she encourages students to support one another and celebrates every step of their progress. For Elise, creating a strong school community is just as important as teaching languages. Through clubs, cultural activities, and everyday interactions, she builds meaningful relationships with students, helping every learner feel known, valued, and encouraged.
Making the Most of Every Day
One of Elise's greatest influences was her grandmother, who introduced her to the Spanish language and culture from a young age. She often shared the saying, Un día es un día ("One day is one day"), reminding Elise to make the most of every opportunity. That philosophy has inspired her to embrace new experiences, live and teach in different countries, and remain curious throughout life. Today, it also shapes the example she hopes to set for her students as they explore new languages, cultures, and possibilities.
