Building Confidence Through Language
With a Master of Education and credentials as both a U.S.-qualified and IB-trained educator, Michael brings a broad perspective to education. Passionate about language learning, he believes English is far more than an academic subject, it's a gateway to confidence, communication, and opportunity.
Michael's earliest memory as a teacher isn't about a lesson or a classroom activity. Instead, it's the moments spent sitting with students, getting to know them as individuals, sharing conversations, laughter, and genuine connections. It was through those experiences that he realized teaching wasn't simply a career, it was his calling.
Helping Students Find Their Voice
For Michael, English B plays a unique role within an International Baccalaureate education because it provides students with the language foundation they need to succeed in IB education. As the one subject dedicated solely to developing English, it gives students the confidence to communicate effectively both academically and socially. His goal is not only to help students become stronger English speakers, but to foster a genuine appreciation for language that will support them throughout their lives.
Inspired by Words and Music
Michael credits literature and music with shaping his own journey. The writing of Hunter S. Thompson inspired him to embrace the unknown and pursue opportunities abroad, while artists including Eric Clapton, John Prine, and Tom Petty have provided a constant source of inspiration throughout his life.
A Lifelong Mindset
Michael's high school basketball coach once gave him a simple sign that read, "Find a way." Those three words became a philosophy that has guided him through both academics and athletics, encouraging perseverance, adaptability, and determination in the face of challenges. Today, it remains the mindset he hopes to instill in every student, approaching obstacles with resilience, finding solutions, and having the confidence to keep moving forward.
