Maira Aymone, IB PYP Teacher - Dwight School Hanoi

Maira’s international teaching experience over the past 18 years has given her countless opportunities to explore language learning. As a homeroom teacher, she not only teaches reading, writing, and grammar, but also learns from her students about how their home languages work. Comparing how different languages express meaning has made her more attentive to the diverse ways students think, process information, and build understanding.

What Drives Her as an Educator

Maira became a Lower School teacher because she is endlessly curious about many different topics and genuinely enjoys exploring them alongside her students. Teaching across subjects allows her to see the world through their eyes, rediscovering wonder, creativity, and fresh perspectives every day.

Most Meaningful Moments

Some of Maira’s most meaningful moments as an educator come when she watches students perform and present their learning with confidence and creativity. The PYP Exhibition is a highlight each year, representing the culmination of their growth as inquirers, communicators, and collaborators. Seeing students take ownership of their inquiries and transform ideas into meaningful action reminds her exactly why she loves teaching in the PYP.

Staying Energized and Inspired

Maira maintains balance by staying active through regular fitness classes and nature hikes, which help her recharge physically and mentally. She enjoys reading in three languages to keep her mind stimulated and connected to different cultures. Time spent with friends, family, and colleagues brings joy, grounding, and balance to her everyday life, energy she brings back into her teaching each day.
