Originally from South Africa, Teegan brings a creative and entrepreneurial background to Early Years education. After starting her career in the business world, she decided to change the pace of a typical 9–5 and moved to Thailand to teach. There, in a small farming town with a hot classroom and no air conditioning, she fell in love with teaching, especially with how excited her students were to meet someone from South Africa and learn about her life. That joy and curiosity from children has kept her in the classroom ever since.
Teaching Philosophy
For Teegan, Early Years is a critical time in a child’s life. She sees it as the moment when children first build confidence, social skills, and a love of school, foundations that shape them for years to come. Respect and communication are at the heart of her classroom. She focuses on getting to know each child deeply: what excites them, what upsets them, and what makes them feel safe and happy. With this understanding, she plans and tailors classroom life so that school feels enjoyable, secure, and full of opportunities to learn.
Learning Environment at Dwight School Hanoi
Teegan loves the beautiful physical environment of the ECD at Dwight School Hanoi. Her classroom opens directly onto an outdoor patio, giving children easy access to the playgrounds and exploration. A sandpit, water table, garden grow boxes, and large windows that flood the room with natural light all help ignite students’ curiosity and their love of the outdoors. These spaces invite children to experiment, play, and discover in meaningful ways.
Why Families Appreciate Her
Parents value Teegan’s calm, caring approach and her commitment to helping even the shyest children grow into confident, happy learners. She takes great joy in looking back at the end of the year and seeing how far her students have come, from nervous tears on the first day to running into class with smiles, ready to learn and connect with others. For Teegan, that transformation is the most rewarding part of her work and a sign that students are being set up for long-term success.
